Syracuse, NY, October 31, 2013— Maria Rizzo, Artist-in-Residence and Curator at the Tech Garden, is proud to present her last exhibition, Trees:Symbols of Powerful Experiences, which explores the history of the symbolism of trees and their role in today's environment. Rizzo's exhibition is part of a juried art and poetry competition that aims to empower Onondaga county artists and poets by giving them a chance to showcase their work on the walls of the Tech Garden, compete to win awards, and bring the community together in thinking, creating and acting greener.

The poetry juror, Lindsey Bellosa, and the art juror, Anne Cappuccilli, selected works that have many different interpretations of this theme, and a wide display of styles and mediums. This exhibition is a celebration of two dimensional art and poetry that is thought provoking, engaging, and technically strong.

The opening reception will be at The Gallery at The Tech Garden on Thursday, November 21, 2013 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The award ceremony will be at 7 p.m. followed by the announcement of the 2014 Artist-in-Residence and Curator at The Tech Garden. At the reception, Steve Harris, the City/County Arborist who coordinates the Save the Rain Tree Planting Program, will speak briefly about the importance of trees in our urban environment and the county's tree planting efforts under the Save the Rain Program. During the evening of the opening reception two local bands, Wagner 3000 and The River Mist Baroque Ensemble, will perform.

This event, free and open to the public, is made possible by the generous contributions of local business like: Cathy J. Berry, MD and Associates, Liverpool Chiropractic & Wellness, PLLC, Wagner Carpentry and Construction, bc Restaurant, Maria Rizzo Art, Obelisk Design, Cusetonight, and Save the Rain.
